Enhancing knowledge in electron microscopy

Annamarija Trausa from the ISSP UL Microscopy laboratory recently attended the Spring School in Electron Microscopy, held on April 17-21, 2023, in Leeds, UK. This event was organized by the Royal Microscopical Society (RMS). The event aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to electron microscopy and its applications.

Annamarija learned about the various types of electron microscopes, their advantages and disadvantages, and how to use them. She also gained insights into the different specimen preparation techniques and the importance of imaging and analysis of materials at the nanoscale. Furthermore, she acquired knowledge in electron diffraction and cryo-electron microscopy.

Annamarija found the event to be highly informative and valuable. The lectures were well structured, and she felt the teachers were engaging and knowledgeable. She also appreciated the opportunity to network with other professionals in the field. Overall, she found the event immensely beneficial and believes that it enabled her to better understand and utilize electron microscopy in her work.

The Spring School in Electron Microscopy aimed to provide basic training in both the theory and practice of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The course covered imaging, diffraction, chemical microanalysis, and the highly important area of sample preparation.
