ISO 9001:2015 quality system certificate expanded for ISSP UL

The Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia is the leading research center in Latvia.  After obtaining the ISO 9001:2015 certificate in 2019, in December 2020 the scope of the certificate was expanded. Obtaining an internationally recognized document is a confirmation that ISSP UL is a quality and development oriented organization.

Receipt of the certificate in 2019, which covered the cleanrooms, marked the result of purposeful work, streamlining user processes, defining duties and responsibilities, as well as identifying the most important risks. As the refinement process continued after certification, the scope of certification was expanded to include open access laboratory services, operation with selected (two) tools, product and service design and development, procurement management, cleanroom infrastructure services for research, education, innovation, development and prototyping. One of the advantages of the ISO certificate is that it allows to offer extended service and research opportunities to both entrepreneurs and other research organizations. The ISO 9001: 2015 quality certificate is an integral part of the CAMART² project, which includes the need for further development, towards excellence in research, innovation and service delivery.

The ISO 9001 family of standards provides a unified system for consistent results, improvements and further development. Joining a standard is not the end, but the beginning. Over time, ISO from bureaucratic system have become an integral part of organizations (ISO 9001 in Cleanroom, for example, is the first step towards implementation of specific quality standards). An important quality component of the system is the register of non-conformities, improvement plan.

ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
