Head of ISSP UL Laboratory of Optical Materials Krišjānis Šmits visited Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht (HZG) on March 29-30. One of the aims was the discussion of possible cooperation between HZG Corrosion and Surface Technology laboratory and ISSP UL.
HZG Corrosion and Surface Technology laboratory has a strong research track in PEO field, mostly focused on corrosion and wear protection of Al and Mg. On the other hand, ISSP UL’s Laboratory of solid state radiation physics were the first to use PEO technology for preparation of coatings with added optical properties.
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Centre for Materials and Coastal Research (HZG) is one out of 19 autonomous research centers of the Helmholtz Associciation. The HZG is a non-profit making research institute with limited liability.
As a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, the largest scientific organization in the country, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht is engaged in long-term activities in the fields of materials and coastal research that are making a major contribution to resolving the large and pressing issues facing society and the scientific and business worlds.
The researchers of the Centre work on high-performance materials for the cars and aircraft of tomorrow, new materials for the field of medicine, new materials for the field of medicine, research on future climate change, management of the coastal and marine environment.
