The Solar Cup is the series of the events organized at the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia since 2008 with the aim to promote and develop knowledge about environmentally friendly and energy efficient solutions in the transport sector in the world today. Local and international experts give lectures on alternative energy solutions and challenges in the field.
This was the 10th year of the Solar Cup in Latvia. All the registered participants received the kits of solar cells and engines. The total of 56 pupils from schools and youth interest education centres around Latvia formed 24 teams each consisting of 1-3 people and competed in speed, power and water disciplines with their solar powered vehicles on June 3 at the premises of the ISSP UL.
The absolute winners of the Solar Cup 2017 were determined based on a number of criteria – home work (model sketches and video on how they made their model vehicle), performance in the competition as well as knowledge test by completing a questionnaire with 10 questions on green energy.
