On April 27, Andrew H.C. Lee, a representative of the Taipei Mission in Latvia, visited the ISSP UL. During the visit, the distinguished guest met the Director of the Institute, Dr.phys. Andris Anspoks, Deputy Director for Science Dr.habil.phys. Andris Šternbergs, and the Head of Taiwan and the Baltic States Research Center on Physics (TBRCP) Mg.phys. Līga Bikše.
Andrew H. C. Lee had a conversation with ISSP UL’s leading researcher Dr.phys. Laima Trinklere and Professor Mitch Ming-Chi Chou from the Department of Materials and Optoelectronics at Taiwan’s National Sun Yat-Sen University who currently is on an exchange visit to Latvia.
During the visit, the guest had a tour that took him to the laboratories; he could see the scanning electron microscope in action and evaluate its capabilities - a nanoscale TBRCP logo. The tour continued in cleanrooms and was concluded with a dialogue on future cooperation opportunities.
The TBRCP was founded in 2020 as a result of long-term cooperation between Taiwan’s National Sun Yat-Sen University and the University of Latvia. The center aims to promote educational exchange and research collaboration, specializing in solid-state physics, material sciences, and optical materials. The TBRCP organizes exchange visits for students and professors and organizes educational seminars on the latest methods and research results. When working on joint projects, researchers use the state-of-the-art equipment of the ISSP UL acquired thanks to the CAMART2 infrastructure upgrade project, which takes them a step closer to more international projects and discoveries.
