The leading researcher from the ISSP UL’s Laboratory of Materials for Energy Harvesting and Storage, Dr. chem. Gunārs Bajārs participated in the 74th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE), which took place in Lyon, France, from September 3 to September 9, 2023, with the poster presentation of his research on “Advanced Cathode Materials for Sodium Ion Batteries”. ISSP UL’s representative introduced other participants to the research carried out at the Laboratory of Energy Harvesting and Storage and the available infrastructure. Gunārs Bajārs actively participated in the various events of the ISE meeting and offered the ISSP UL expertise for future cooperation.
One of the main outcomes of the conference was the initiation of conversations on future cooperation and joint project preparation with several universities and research institutions (Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany), Grenoble Institute of Engineering and Management (France), National Cheng Kung University, Tainan (Taiwan), etc.
Another positive outcome of the ISE meeting – discussions with manufacturers of potentiostats and battery cyclers Metrohm, BioLogic, IVIUM Technologies, Zahner, Origalys and Gamry Instruments on the possibility of acquiring the newest and most advanced in situ and in operando research equipment for the ISSP UL scientific needs.
At the conference, the ISSP UL’s researcher gained new knowledge in the research and development of cathode and anode materials for lithium and sodium ion batteries, all-solid-state batteries, and battery safety and diagnostics.
Before the ISE meeting on September 1, Dr. chem. Gunārs Bajārs visited Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 to talk about the knowledge and capabilities of the ISSP UL’s researchers. With university representatives, the ISSP UL’s researcher discussed possible cooperation in the design of new high-performing materials for lithium-ion batteries. Both sides affirmed the willingness to prepare joint research proposals.
