A delegation from the ISSP UL, comprised of Ģirts Ozoliņš (senior expert from Development Department), Gints Kučinskis (leading researcher, head of the Energy Materials Laboratory), Sergejs Fomins (leading researcher, head of the Laboratory for Visual Perception), and Gatis Mozoļevskis (leading researcher, head of the Micro and Nanodevices Laboratory), recently visited the University of Kiel and the University of Southern Denmark. Scheduled on April 11th and April 12th, respectively, these visits provided an opportunity for fruitful exchanges between the visiting scientists and their counterparts at the host institutions.
During the meetings, the scientists from both the University of Kiel and the University of Southern Denmark shared insights into their research domains and primary areas of interest. In turn, the researchers from ISSP UL offered perspectives on energy materials, technology transfer, optics, and microfluidics, explaining their ongoing work in these fields.
Of particular note were the discussions on energy materials, which saw engaging exchanges with Professor Rainer Adelung of Kiel University. Topics ranged from the exploration of high surface area silicon and carbon materials for application in Li-ion batteries to the examination of roll-to-roll magnetron sputtering techniques and their potential applications in supercapacitors, Li-ion batteries, and Na-ion batteries at the University of Southern Denmark.
Identifying common ground for collaboration, potential project opportunities emerged, including joint applications for initiatives such as Horizon Europe Twinning and Interreg. Additionally, both parties expressed intent to monitor forthcoming calls under the Horizon Europe framework, specifically focusing on Research and Innovation Actions (RIA) and Innovation Actions (IA) for topics of mutual interest.
